'He's behind you!'
Andrew Hume founded Bath Puppet Theatre in 1978 in a building beside the famous Pulteney Bridge in Bath. As well as performing regular shows, he opened a cafe within the venue which was much-loved by Bath locals and tourists alike for its relaxed atmosphere, generous portions of delicious vegetarian fare and endless free refills of coffee!
After twenty fantastically successful and ridiculously busy years Andrew decided to step away from the increasing demands of the cafe and focus on his his first love - puppets and sculpture.
Despite no longer having a permanent theatre space, the calls for puppet shows kept coming and the last fifteen years have seen him make regular appearances at birthday parties, fetes, fairs and weddings. The puppets he uses are still the same original characters he handmade all those years ago, repaired and repainted over the years. Today they're entertaining the next generation, sometimes even the children of those who saw the shows thirty years ago, and who are equally enthralled by Punch and his cohort.
Andrew is adept at creating a show for your needs, incorporating nursery rhyme singalongs for pre-schoolers, or adapting the pace and story for a mixed crowd of four to eighty-four year olds. Call or email for prices and availability.
